Student Performance and Audition Opportunities
When should I have my pieces picked for performance or audition?
* Please note, these are approximate guidelines. If you know you need more time (especially those slow to memorize), then stick with your gut intuition and start earlier!
Primer Level: 4 weeks before performance.
Level 1 - 2: 6 weeks before performance
Level 3: 8 weeks before performance.
Early Intermediate Student (playing Bach minuets, easy sonatinas...Duncombe, LaTour, easy Clementi,
Attwood, etc, and level 4 pop/ jazz repertoire/ any piano accompaniment labeled "Easy Piano"): 10 weeks (2 1/2 months) before performance
Late Intermediate Student (playing Kuhlau/ Mozart/ Beethoven sonatinas, harder Clementi sonatinas, Bach preludes, Haydn sonata movements, level 5 + pop/ jazz repertoire): 12 weeks before (3 months) performance.
Advanced Student (playing Beethoven sonata movements, Chopin waltzes and mazurkas, Debussy pieces, Joplin Rags, Mozart sonatas, unsimplified versions of accompaniment repertoire) : 16 weeks before (4 months), 6 months before for complete sonatas or difficult repertoire that needs to be memorized.
