Rhythm and Rhyme Time classes are 12 weeks of fun music, percussion, and movement classes designed to lay a foundation of rhythm and music in young children.  Classes meet once a week at Footloose Dance and Fitness in Purcellville.  The curriculum is based on the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education.   Ms. P, an Orff-Schulwerk level II certified instructor, weaves her own creations as well as her contagious energy into a dynamic music experience for the children.  The focus at this level is a general exploration of body awareness, spatial awareness, and musical exposure.  The curriculum, which is adusted according to age level, centers around as many movement games as possible coupled with as many singing experiences as possible.  Repetition is a key component.  Each movement activity and song has an opportunity for students to contribute their improvisations.

Activities include:

  • basic rhythm
  • imitation (echo)
  • American folk songs
  • songs with actions
  • songs with movement
