Welcome to Mad Music Lab (formerly Keyboard Adventures), western Loudoun's source for music instruction by music professionals.  Located in Purcellville, Virginia, our studio is about an hour west of Washington, DC.  Owned by experienced instructor and pianist-composer Jennifer Warren-Baker, our studio offers high-tech instruction while still delivering a thorough classical foundation.  We specialize in equipping students not only to play and read music skillfully, but to improvise, arrange, and compose music.  To our instructors, music is an artistic and experimental medium meant to be passionately and creatively explored, just as mad scientists passionately explore the material world.  But we realize that students cannot become musical scientists and artists without first filling their toolbox with the basics of music theory, sight-reading skills, and mastery of scales and chords.

Another one of our goals at Mad Music Lab is to respect the individual.  Each students that walks through our doors is uniquely and beautifully made, and no student has the same musical personality and interests as another.   We worry that too many music studios completely neglect student interests and are out of touch with contemporary musical idioms.  At Mad Music Lab we tune into students' hearts and have the privilege of watching those hearts and souls take flight when a student connects with a piece emotionally.  You can hear this respect for individuality in our January 2011 student recital medley:

Although we used to just be a piano studio, this year we will begin offering much more for both children and adults, including Orff-based music classes (percussion, movement, and ensembles), pop keyboard orchestra, voice lessons, recording technology classes, improv workshops, and composing clinics!  We know these additions cannot all happen at once, so we will be adding one new class offering at a time.

Adult Piano, Keyboard, and Voice Lessons?  YES!

Depressed about the economy?  Try adult music lessons -- the best "recession therapy" there is!

We are currently making a lot of changes to our website, so check back periodically.
